WHY TO VISIT BRAZIL

Although the name Brazil brings the Carnival and festivals to mind this is far from being its only attractions: Nature is also omnipresent in all its magnificence from idyllic beaches to vast forests.

The overpopulated city of Rio de Janeiro, at the same time a symbol of festive music and the great misery of its favelas (shanty towns), is both hectic and joyful. Visit the beaches of Copacabana, Ipanema, the Sugar Loaf and its Christ statue, the centre of Rio, the port, and the churches without forgetting one of the various samba schools.
Salvador de Bahia is worth a few days pause: Its historic quarter, superb churches and colonial quarter are all interesting places to visit. Other activities you may consider include a lesson in capoeira and, if you visit in January, assisting with the carnival, less famous but just as festive as that of Rio.

The Iguaçu Falls consist of a series of impressive waterfalls, 275 in all, that form an unforgettable spectacle. The National Park where they can be found also offers various activities connected with the surrounding natural splendour.

From Manaus, Capital of the Amazon, you can take an expedition to discover the Amazon jungle, its rivers and forests. Numerous travel companies offer this opportunity. Take a walk through the old town and discover the market and the Opera House.
